The fair begins Friday at noon with the stock farm tractor pull and horse log skidding. The amusement rides open at 3pm. This is a great time for people with little ones to get a quick run of the fair and not feel so overwhelmed by the crowd. Friday night will begin with the raising of the flag by the Alvirne High School JROTC color guard. New this year is the Lawn Tractor Pull on Friday Night and the ever popular Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off in the main arena will be jaw dropping with weights topping around 1000 lbs. We have Brett, an amazing chain saw sculptor back again this year that you can watch birds and animals just jump out and come alive from a wooden log. Come “Learn to be a Farmer” with a series of talks related to backyard farming. All weekend we are incredibly excited to have the NH Falconry School (www.nhschooloffalconry.com) showing off their majestic birds. We are the only show for them in New England and they are known as far away as Ireland and Canada. These birds are amazing and will be doing flight demos both Saturday and Sunday.
Exhibitors wanted! If you make the best pie or bread enter it in the fair. If you grew the perfect tomatoes or the most beautiful rose, enter it in the fair. Open classes are always a fun way to show off your talents. If you are interested in entering any of the open classes a premium book with an entire class and department listing are available online at www.HCAFair.com. Ribbons are given and premium money paid. Always a favorite is the King Arthur Flour baking contest featuring Harvest Pumpkin Bars and Chewy Chocolate Chip cookies this year.
Saturday is filled with entertainment, exhibits and animal classes that show the hard work of people all over the county. The main stage entertainment will include The Tammy Lynn Myles High Band, Bow Junction and Heel n' Toe Square Dancing. The evening's entertainment will be the band, Barn Fire. They are a local band and always a crowd pleaser. Get there early for the best seats. The Cowboy Mounted Shooters take center arena late afternoon and The BIG RIG Truck Pull is also Saturday night. Its pretty crazy to watch semis and big 10 wheel trucks pull!
Joining the Fair again this year is the Manchester Mounted Police on Friday and Saturday. There will be oxen pulling on Saturday and horse pulling on Sunday. Our famous weekend long horseshoe pitching contest continues up on the hill. This event is FREE for anyone to enter and winners receive a plaque for first and second in boy and girl divisions! Also FREE are pie eating contests open to all fairgoers. There are quilts to be raffled and bake sales to eat your way through. Along with fair food, fair rides and fair games, there will be goats, sheep, rabbits, cows, pigs and poultry. The 4-H Sheep Olympics on Sunday afternoon - how can you miss that?
Sunday's main stage entertainment consists of Dan Morgan at noon and Johnnie Bubar from NBC's “The Voice” at 1:30. As always we will have Mo the Clown sitting down by the main stage and he can make any balloon animal your child can dream up!
Our Midway rides for young and young at heart and games to test your skill and strength are the staple of the county fair. Area vendors will be on the grounds to sell you anything you may want. We wind down the weekend with the New Boston Fire Department demonstration, more entertainment, the Free for all Horse pull and our huge truck pull that entertains the crowd all afternoon.
Help keep the “agri” in our “culture” and enter your best in the fair or just come and enjoy the sights and smells of your 56th Annual Hillsborough County Agricultural Fair.
